Release Day – Wolf Bound: Pack Bound Series Book 4

Today, the last book in my Pack Bound Series, Wolf Bound, is released. It feels a bit like the end of an era with the 4 books out there, roaming free 😉 It took me four years to write them, another year of editing and changes with my publisher to bring them out this year over a three month period in a quick release that has taken my breath away a bit with how fast it’s all come about finally. The response and many of the reviews have been amazingly positive and it’s been very gratifying to know that readers are loving my characters, my world and the labour of love that has been this series.

Wolf Bound itself has been in my head almost from the beginning of writing the series – which is kind of unusual for me. I usually sit down with very little idea of what I am writing beyond the fact some character/s might have been speaking to me, telling me a small part of their story, or a scene that keeps visiting me in my dreams. This series began with a dream of a two people smashing into each other on the ski slopes of Mt Buller – something that happened to me in reality, but without the lovely romantic-sexual-attraction-thing going on, just pain on my side and the humiliated apology on the other. But years later, that scene kept coming to me in my dreams, but this time with a big ‘what if’. What if the two people who had a crash were soul mates fated to be together? What if they had been separated when young? What if one of them knew this and the other was completely ignorant of her past? What if theirs was a world of magic and supernatural creatures? It was so intriguing an idea, I had to start writing it down to explore where these two characters had come from and where they were going.

When Shelley and Adam first popped onto the page in Pack Bound as best friend and brother of my heroine and hero, they were instantly intriguing to me, and I have to admit, I struggled at times with them not taking over the story. Adam was so quippy and funny and loved getting a rise out of Shelley and Shelley was just a bundle of hurt that couldn’t help being snappy right back to the ‘annoying Adam’. I knew from the start they were meant to be together and that their coming together would be a struggle of epic proportions that would rock not only them to the core of their being and make them question everything they know about themselves, but would, in the epic fantasy tradition, be earth shattering and full of sacrifice and the most difficult of changes. Theirs was the most difficult story, and I knew, even at the beginning, that their story would finish off the books and be one of the most difficult to write, but one of the most satisfying in the end as it brought to a conclusion the series arc.

When I finished writing Wolf Bound, I sat back and, apart from the sadness that overwhelms me whenever I finish a book and are no longer in that amazing stage of discovery and exploration and must say goodbye to my characters, I felt satisfied and relieved that it had all come together in this book in such a powerful way. I hope that all my readers feel the same.

Wolf Bound is the conclusion to the McVale Pack and Coven’s fight against the Darkness. I have other ideas in this world in mind, but those are for future times when I have finished writing my current works in progress. I do like the idea of settling back into this world in a few years time, but for now, I am thrilled to give you Wolf Bound today, Adam and Shelley’s story, and release it and them into the world for the readers to enjoy.

Happy reading!

Wolf Bound

The ultimate sacrifice, a love that lasts forever…

Five hundred years ago, facing extinction, a group of powerful witches united to create a pact with the Were to save witch–kind. The pact expelled an ancient evil, known only as the Darkness, that was blocking the Were from their wolves. With the Darkness destroyed, the Packs and their Covens grew strong as they thrived beside each other in their brand–new world.

But the Darkness was not destroyed.

Shelley Conners has good reason to hate and fear the powers that connect her to the spirit world and the insanity they foretell. But with the Pack’s Trickster, Adam McVale, transformed into a Shade, a creature caught between life and death, Shelley holds the only key to saving him. Opening herself up to the world of the dead will only speed up her descent into madness, but Shelley never expects an even darker evil within–the Darkness, waiting patiently for her and the opportunity to destroy the world.
